As a woman, it is important we know who we are and what we stand for. I have thought about these questions and been on a quest to find out what REALLY matters to me. I call these things that really matter--the essentials. Will your essentials be my essentials? Does everyone have the same essentials? The answer is a qualified no. Hopefully there will always be essentials that matter to all decent human beings. Essentials like kindness, children's safety, unconditional love and decency. But there are so many others that are individualized dependent on our own journeys. Finding what our own essentials are is a way to bring purpose and joy to our personal journeys. What are the essentials?
"Sometimes we become so focused on the finish line, that we fail to find joy in the journey." Hussein NishahWe aren't on the path to just finish. We are traveling along, learning and growing along the way. We have to find what is most important along the way and what brings us true joy. The greatest responsibility and honor I have ever had is to be a parent. I am not a perfect parent. I have made and will make many mistakes. But I have learned that trying is what counts, that you can always say you are sorry and try again. Genuine effort and unconditional love make up for many failures along the way.
"Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations." The Family-A Proclamation to the World
With love,
Katie
